Caritas Golf Tournament

We hosted the lovely 'Everyone's A Winner' charity golf tournament on August 27, 2007, and wanted to share the photos.

Message from Caritas Hospitals Foundation Board and President & CEO

Caritas Annual Report - Foundation

It has been a very rewarding and fulfilling year for the Caritas Hospitals Foundation.  As we reflect on our accomplishments of 2006, none are more deserving of recognition than the contributions of our Donors, Volunteers and Friends.  To each and every one of you, our heartfelt appreciation for your generosity and for the endless hours you have selflessly given to the work of our Foundation.  It is through your acts of kindness that Caritas Hospitals Foundation and Caritas Health Group will continue to support our community in some of the most celebrated and most difficult times of need.

Through the collective efforts of both the Foundation and the Capital Region, we were able to secure $4.2 million to ensure the following projects remain a vital part of our health community:

  • Beginning of life needs at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital – Excellence in Family Care (labour/delivery and newborn care)
  • End of life care at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital – our internationally recognized Regional Palliative Care Program supporting those in the final stages of life’s journey
  • Advancement of care though the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment at the Misericordia Community Hospital – Surgical Centres of Excellence (minimally invasive surgical units that are digitally, voice-activated operating theatres)
  • State-of-the-art Electronic Beds and Mattresses for seniors and residents at the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre

The Foundation also received $245,000 in support from the Associates of Caritas. In addition, the Foundation holds approximately $11.85 million in endowment funds which is made-up of $3.35 million in donor endowments and $8.5 million in board endowments.  It is our goal to create a Board Endowment which will exceed $10 million.  With the support of our annual Caritas Hospitals Foundation Lottery (2006) and the contributions of the community, the Board Endowment currently totals $8.5 million. These cherished gifts will be held in perpetuity to provide a sustainable source to meet the future needs of the Caritas Health Group.

As we look to the future, we are encouraged by the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead.  On August 15th, we will launch our 15th Annual Caritas Hospitals Foundation Lottery.  Through the visionary leadership of our Lottery Committee and the dedicated efforts of our new managers and design team, this year’s Lottery features our most impressive prizes to date – three, grand prize, fully furnished and decorated show homes, a luxury car in each driveway, spectacular landscaping including hot tubs, and premier garage packages.  Since the inception of the Caritas Hospitals Foundation Lottery, we have raised a record $20 million thanks to the generous contributions of Edmontonians and Albertans.

Mother Teresa once said, “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean.  But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.”  To all of our supporters of yesterday, today and tomorrow, thank you for embracing our 112-year tradition and mission to provide care that honour the remarkable journey of life, from beginning to end.

Yours truly,

Ken Knowles
Chairman of the Board
