What we do

The Caritas Foundation’s purpose is to support Covenant Health’s 150-year legacy of providing quality, compassionate care by healing the body, enriching the mind and nurturing the soul.  The Foundation raises funds to help support leading edge programs and services, state of the art health care equipment, research and education. To learn more about the the programs and services the foundation supports our theme room campaign, view how your money helps or learn more about our history.

We raise the funds needed for this through a number of campaigns including, Everyone’s A Winner Golf Tournament, Longest Day of Golf, Lights of Hope, and  the Caritas Foundation Concert Series. We also have our annual Caritas Foundation Lottery that starts in August and also our Caritas Foundation Staff Lottery which has 76 draws for the fiscal year (April 11 – March 12). We also raise funds through our Annual Giving programs like Telefundraising which is a year round program and our Direct Mail campaigns in the Spring and Fall. 2011/2012 Priorities:

Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine (iRSM) located at Misericordia Community Hospital

This year we need to raise $500,000 for iRSM’s endowment fund which Caritas Foundation established 10 years ago to promote exploration in reconstructive sciences that will enhance biomedical engineering research and education to improve care and rehabilitation for all Albertans. It will also help to establish the Murray E. Mickleborough Chair in Interfacial Biomechanics

Palliative Care Centre of Excellence located at Grey Nuns Community Hospital

Acute-Palliative-Care

Caritas Foundation needs to raise $1.25 million to help establish this Palliative Care Centre of Excellence. The number of Albertans who will require these services is expected to increase by 33% by the 2020. In response to this growing need, Covenant Health is working to enhance its leadership role through a comprehensive Palliative Care and End of Life Strategy. By establishing this centre of excellence Caritas Foundation will help Covenant Health to bring experts together to focus on research, programs, planning and education. Through this closely linked network of people, Covenant Health will improve efforts to deliver palliative and end of life care across Alberta.
